Born in Havana, Cuba, Melo has performed at a variety of theaters abroad, including Berlin's Deutsche Oper and State Opera; Hamburg State Opera, Stuttgart's State Opera, Düsseldorf's Deutsche Oper am Rhein, Frankfurt Opera, Dresden State Opera, and the opera companies of St. Gallen, Klagenfurt, Braunscheig, and Reims. He has sung at theaters throughout the U.S., including Washington Opera, Florida Grand Opera, Palm Beach Opera, and Minnesota Opera. Last season, Melo sang the role of Rodolfo in Puccini's Bohème for Michigan Opera and Cleveland Opera and then traveled to Austin Lyric Opera and Spain for Don José in Bizet's Carmen. Last year, Melo created the role of Manno Bianchini in the world premiere of Coppola's Sacco and Vanzetti in Tampa, Florida. These performances mark Melo's Seattle Opera debut.
