Richard Paul Fink
Baritone
This Metropolitan Opera baritone appeared at Seattle Opera last season as Jochanaan in R. Strauss’s Salome. He made his company debut in 1996 as Gérard in Giordano’s Andrea Chénier and returned to sing Wagner’s Alberich in Das Rheingold in 2000 and in the complete Ring cycle in 2001. Richard Paul Fink had previously sung the role of Alberich for the Metropolitan Opera and Dallas Opera. Other Met roles include Don Pizarro, Telramund in Wagner’s Lohengrin, Kurwenal in Wagner’s Tristan und Isolde, and George Osborn in Harbison’s Great Gatsby. Fink has appeared with Sydney Opera, New York City Opera, Berlin State Opera, L’Opéra de Montréal, and San Francisco Opera, among others. He makes his debut at Deutsche Oper Berlin in June, singing the Dutchman in Wagner’s Fliegende Holländer. Fink’s many roles include the title roles of Verdi’s Macbeth and Rigoletto and Scarpia in Puccini’s Tosca; next season his role debuts include the Verdi’s Otello and Tchaikovsky’s Eugene Onegin. Fink returns to Seattle Opera for Wagner’s Parsifal this summer, singing his fourth Klingsor this year, the other performances being at the Met, Paris Opéra-Bastille, Berlin Philharmonic, and the Salzburg Festival. In 2003 at Seattle Opera, he will sing Don Pizarro in Fidelio and Klingsor in Parsifal.
