Richard Stilwell
Baritone
This Metropolitan Opera baritone made his Seattle Opera debut as Don Alfonso in Mozart’s Così fan tutte in 1992 and returned as the Doctor in Barber’s Vanessa in 1999 and Mr. Redburn in Britten’s Billy Budd in 2001. At the Metropolitan, his many roles include Count Almaviva in Mozart’s Nozze di Figaro, Figaro in Rossini’s Barbiere di Siviglia, Malatesta in Donizetti’s Don Pasquale, and Captain Balstrode in Britten’s Peter Grimes. The native of St. Louis, Missouri, has performed extensively with Los Angeles Opera, Lyric Opera of Chicago, and with Washington, San Diego, and Santa Fe Operas. In Europe, Stilwell has sung at Teatro alla Scala, Royal Opera House Covent Garden, Paris Opera, Deutsche Oper Berlin, and Teatro de la Zarzuela, Madrid. He was last seen at Seattle Opera as Sharpless in Puccini’s Madama Butterfly.
