Russian-born Chernov made his Seattle Opera debut as Prince Andrei in the company’s 1990 production of Prokofiev’s War and Peace and returned in 1992 for Figaro in Rossini’s Barbiere di Siviglia. In 1991, he made his debut at both the Metropolitan Opera and the Royal Opera Covent Garden, singing Miller in Verdi’s Luisa Miller in New York and Figaro in Rossini’s Barbiere di Siviglia in London. In addition to singing Stankar in Verdi’s Stiffelio at Teatro alla Scala, Ford in Verdi’s Falstaff at Vienna State Opera, and the title role of Verdi’s Simon Boccanegra at Paris Opéra-Bastille, Chernov has sung Figaro in Il barbiere di Siviglia in Buenos Aires, Count di Luna in Verdi’s Trovatore in Berlin, and Don Carlo in Verdi’s Forza del destino in Munich.  He has sung in two Met Telecasts, as Stankar in Stiffelio and as Carlo in La forza del destino. Other roles include Filippo in Bellini’s Beatrice di Tenda, Nottingham in Donizetti’s Roberto Devereux, Ezio in Verdi’s Attila, Renato in Verdi’s Ballo in maschera, Posa in Verdi’s Don Carlo, and Yeletsky in Tchaikovsky’s Queen of Spades. Chernov has also appeared at Deutsche Oper Berlin, Hamburg State Opera, Rome Opera, Glasgow Opera, the Salzburg Festival, Lyric Opera of Chicago, San Francisco Opera, and Los Angeles Opera.
