Seattle Opera General Director Designate
Starting with the 2014/15 season, Aidan Lang will be Seattle Opera’s third General Director. He comes to Seattle from New Zealand Opera, where he had been General Director since 2006. During his tenure, New Zealand Opera became a truly national company with the addition of performances in Christchurch, on the South Island, to the company’s established performance venues in Auckland and Wellington, on the North Island. He also established New Zealand’s first-ever opera production workshop, which resulted in a series of co-productions with Scottish Opera, Victorian Opera, Opera Queensland and the State Opera of South Australia. He previously held artistic leadership positions at the Buxton Festival, Glyndebourne, and Opera Zuid in the Netherlands, during which time he was also active as a stage director. Among his many directing achievements was the first Brazilian production of Wagner’s Ring at the historic Teatro Amazonas in Manaus.
