Alice Coote’s roles in Europe have included have included Penelope in Monteverdi’s Return of Ulysses, Zenobia in Handel’s Radamisto and Tamiri in Mozart’s Il Re Pastoreat Opera North, and Valetto in Monteverdi’s Incoronazione di Poppea and the Composer in Richard Strauss’s Ariadne auf Naxos at Welsh National Opera. Coote has sung Ruggiero in Handel’s Alcina at Stuttgart Opera, Edinburgh Festival 2000, Nederlandse Opera, and Théâtre du Chatelet (Paris). She has also appeared at Scottish Opera, English National Opera, Reisopera, and Salzburg Festival, among others. Coote made her debut at Royal Opera Covent Garden as Cherubino in Mozart’s Nozze di Figaro and returned to that company to sing the title role in Handel’s Orlando. Coote made her U.S. debut as Hansel in Humperdinck’s Hänsel und Gretel at Lyric Opera of Chicago. Since then, she has sung Ruggiero at San Francisco Opera, the Composer at Lyric Opera, and Cherubino for her Metropolitan Opera debut in 2005. This British singer makes her Seattle Opera debut as Octavian in Richard Strauss’s Rosenkavalier.
