Anna Burford


English mezzo-soprano Anna Burford makes her U.S. debut as Giulio Cesare for the Seattle Opera, a role that she previously sang at Opera Ireland. Her appearances in Great Britain, France, and Germany include the title role in Monteverdi’s Orfeo for Opera National du Rhin; Roswita in Ahmed Essyad’s Héloïse et Abélard with Opéra National du Rhin and Théâtre du Châtelet; Ursule in Berlioz’ Béatrice et Bénédict, Suzuki in Puccini’s Madama Butterfly, the Page in Richard Strauss’s Salome, and Maddalena in Verdi’s Rigoletto for Welsh National Opera; and Amastris in Handel’s Xerxes, Anna in Berlioz’ Trojans at Carthage, Maddalena in Rigoletto, and the Dresser, Schoolboy, and Waiter in Berg’s Lulu for English National Opera, which was recorded for Chandos. Other roles include Mrs. McLean in Floyd’s Susanna and Mrs. Nolan in Menotti’s Medium at the Wexford Festival, the first maid in Richard Strauss’s Elektra at the Edinburgh International Festival, and Owl and Ant in Richard Ayres’ Cricket Recovers at the Almeida, Bregenz, and Aldeburgh Festivals.
