Carolyn Betty makes her Seattle Opera debut in the role of Chrysothemis. In 2006, she was a finalist in Seattle Opera’s first International Wagner Competition (though illness prevented her from performing). A graduate of the Pittsburgh Opera Center, Betty’s recent engagements include the First Lady in Mozart's Zauberflöte, Fiordiligi in Mozart’s Così fan tutte, Micaëla in Bizet’s Carmen at Pittsburgh Opera, Vitellia in Mozart’s Clemenza di Tito, and Anna Maurrant in Weill’s Street Scene at the Wolf Trap Opera and at Opera Theatre of Saint Louis, and the title role of Samuel Barber’s Vanessa at the Curtis Institute of Music. In concert at the Hollywood Bowl, she sang Woglinde in Wagner’s Götterdämmerung and Mozart’s Magic Flute with the Los Angeles Philharmonic. With the National Symphony Orchestra, she has performed Dvorák’s Moravian Duets, in Mendelssohn’s Incident Music to A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Rosalinde in selections from Johann Strauss Jr.’s Fledermaus, and she made her Dallas and Pittsburg Symphony debuts with Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9. She won the 2002 Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions and the 2006 George London/Kirsten Flagstad Award.
