Before receiving his Master’s degree at the University of Washington Charles Tim Buck toured the US with a variety of road shows from classical ballet to rock and roll. His fire design artistry began with expertise he learned in the military and further developed working special effects on numerous films and pyrotechnics on large firework shows. Buck became Seattle Opera’s Master Stage Carpenter in 1990. His many designs and contributions to Seattle Opera include the fireworks in Ariadne auf Naxos, Brünnhilde’s protective fire in Die Walküre, the harness design used internationally for hanging Billy Budd and those of the Rhine Daughters in this current production of Der Ring des Nibelungen.
