Christine Brandes made her Seattle Opera debut as Cleopatra in Handel’s Giulio Cesare in Egitto. She returned to Seattle as Susanna in Mozart’s Marriage of Figaro—a role she has also sung at Minnesota Opera, New York City Opera, Opera Company of Philadelphia, Opéra de Montréal, Opéra de Québec, and Opera Pacific—and will sing Pamina in Mozart’s Magic Flutev in May 2011. This American soprano’s many Handel roles include Dalinda in Ariodante for Houston Grand Opera and San Diego Opera, Dorinda in Orlando for Glimmerglass Opera, Galatea in Acis and Galatea for Glimmerglass Opera and New York City Opera, Iris in Semele for San Francisco Opera, and Morgana in Alcina for Opéra de Lorraine. Other roles in her repertoire include Poppea and Drusilla in Monteverdi’s Incoronazione di Poppea, the Mozart roles of Zerlina in Don Giovanni and Despina in Così fan tutte, Euridice in Gluck's Orfeo ed Euridice, Adina in Donizetti’s Elisir d’amore, Nannetta in Verdi’s Falstaff, and the Governess in Britten’s Turn of the Screw. Brandes sang Catherine in William Bolcom’s View from the Bridge in her Washington National Opera debut, and she sings Despina in Portland in February.
