Irish soprano Frances Lucey made her Seattle Opera debut as Rosalba in Catán’s Florencia en el Amazonas. In 2006, she returned to the company as Despina in Mozart’s Così fan tutte and Sophie in Richard Strauss’s Rosenkavalier. Lucey is a member of the Staatstheater am Gärtnerplatz in Munich. Her roles there have included Sandrina in Mozart’s Finta giardiniera and Papagena in Mozart’s Zauberflöte, Gretel in Humperdinck’s Hänsel und Gretel , and Maria in Bernstein’s West Side Story. Lucey has also performed with Deutsche Oper Berlin, Stuttgart Staatsoper, Bonn Staatsoper, and Semper Oper Dresden as well as with Bayerische Staatsoper. Her many roles in Munich have included Atalanta in Handel’s Xerxes, Oscar in Verdi’s Ballo in maschera, Cleopatra in Handel’s Giulio Cesare in Egitto. Also in Munich, she sang the Daughter in the world premiere of Hans-Jurgen von Bose’s Slaughterhouse Five. Credits in her native Ireland include Rosina in Paisiello’s Barbiere di Siviglia and Emmy in Marschner’s Vampyr at the Wexford Festival.
