Bio

Irene Spiegelman has been the German language coach at the Metropolitan Opera since 1977, and also teaches and coaches singers in its Lindemann Young Artist Development Program. Born in Berlin, Spiegelman holds undergraduate and graduate degrees in English literature, drama, and pedagogy, as well as a Ph.D. in 19th century German literature from New York University. Specializing in interpretation, diction, and spoken dialogues, Spiegelman has served as German language coach for the New York Philharmonic, Glimmerglass Opera, and Wolf Trap Opera. Since 2004 she has been a Lieder coach at the Marlboro Music Festival. She makes her Seattle Opera debut with the Ring.
