Janice Baird has sung Brünnhilde in Wagner’s Ring des Nibelungen in numerous houses in Europe, including Grand Théâtre de Genève, Zurich, Deutsche Oper Berlin, Düsseldorf, Copenhagen, and Marseille. Other recent Wagner roles for Baird include Isolde in Tristan und Isolde in Buenos Aires, Hamburg, Rome, and Toulouse; Ortrud in Lohengrin in Dresden and Bilbao; and Senta in Der fliegende Holländer in Santiago, Chile. The American soprano also regularly sings the Richard Strauss roles of Salome, Elektra, and the Dyer’s Wife in Die Frau ohne Schatten. Her Italian repertoire includes the Verdi roles of Abigaille in Nabucco, Amelia in Un Ballo in Maschera, and Lady Macbeth, and Puccini’s Tosca, Turandot, and Minnie in La Fanciulla del West. She made her Metropolitan Opera debut in 2008 as Isolde. She has sung Leonore in Beethoven’s Fidelio at the Gewandhaus in Leipzig and the Deutsche Oper Berlin. Baird made her Seattle Opera debut as Elektra in 2008. Other recent performances include Brünnhilde in Zurich and Stockholm; Minnie in Rome and Seville; Turandot in Rome, Athens, and Seville; and Elektra in Dresden, Berlin, Singapore, and Vienna.
