Jayne Casselman makes her Seattle Opera debut in the title role of Richard Strauss's Elektra, a role that she has previously performed at Opera Saarbrücken in 2006. This American soprano has appeared as the Wagner heroine Brünnhilde in Ring cycles at Opera Cologne, Oper Dortmund, Nationaltheater Mannheim, De Vlaamse Opera-Ghent and Opera Bonn; Brünnhilde in Götterdämmerung in Vlaamse Opera in Antwerp and Gran Teatre del Liceu in Barcelona; and Brünnhilde in Die Walküre in Naples. Other Wagner roles include Isolde in Tristan and Isolde at Opera National de Bordeaux and Opera de Oviedo, and Kundry in Parsifal in Mannheim and in Barcelona. Her recent roles in operas of Richard Strauss include the title roles in Ariadne auf Naxos, and Salome. Casselman also has sung Leonore in Beethoven’s Fidelio at Innsbruck, Milada in Smetana’s Dalibor at Saarbrücken, and Katerina Ismailova in Shostakovich's Lady Macbeth of Mtsensk in Mannheim and in Barcelona, Didon and Cassandre in Berlioz's Les Troyens, and Goneril in Reimann's Lear. Upcoming productions include Brünnhilde in Götterdämmerung at La Fenice and Isolde in Leipzig.
