John Stoddart’s set designs have been seen at Seattle Opera in Verdi’s Don Carlo and Rossini’s Barber of Seville. At Opera Australia he has designed sets for Mozart’s Magic Flute, Richard Strauss’s Ariadne auf Naxos, Johann Strauss Jr.’s Fledermaus, Meyerbeer’s Hugenots, and Previn’s Streetcar Named Desire, among others. Stoddart’s additional opera credits include Mozart’s Clemenza di Tito at Royal Opera Covent Garden; Mozart’s Don Giovanni at English National Opera; and Britten’s Turn of the Screw, Handel’s Alceste, and Lehár’s Merry Widow at Scottish Opera. In the U.S. he has designed The Barber of Seville and Rossini’s Tancredi for Houston Grand Opera, Saint-Saëns’s Samson and Delilah and Offenbach’s Tales of Hoffmann at Opera North, and Verdi’s Rigoletto at Los Angeles Opera. With the Sydney Theatre Company he has designed productions of Cyrano de Bergerac, Amadeus, and Nicholas Nickleby. Stoddart’s film credits include The Adventures of Barry McKenzie, Silent Fall, and Heaven’s Prisoners.
