Kay Walker Castaldo makes her Seattle Opera debut in 2009 directing Bizet’s Pearl Fishers, a production she and Boyd Ostroff originated with the Opera Company of Philadelphia. She has a multitude of original productions to her credit in prestigious companies worldwide including Teatro Colón, New York City Opera, Florida Grand Opera, L’Opéra de Montréal, Cincinnati Opera, as well as numerous guest directing engagements at Opera Company of Philadelphia, Pittsburgh Opera, and Indianapolis Opera. Recent work includes Leoncavallo’s Pagliacci with Cincinnati Opera; a new production of Wagner’s Walküre at Teatro Colón; new productions of Bellini’s Norma and Capuleti e i Montecchi, Offenbach’s Tales of Hoffmann, Verdi’s Trovatore, and Massenet’s Werther for the Opera Company of Philadelphia; as well as Puccini’s Bohème at the University of Michigan; Rossini’s Barbiere di Siviglia at Indiana University; and the premiere of Margaret Garwood’s Scarlet Letter at the Academy of Vocal Arts.
