South-African tenor Kobie van Rensburg made his professional debut as Belmonte in Mozart’s Entführung aus dem Serail at Roodepoort City Opera in 1991. He is an ensemble member of Munich’s Staatstheater am Gärtnerplatz, and regularly appears at Berlin State Opera, Bavarian State Opera in Munich, Stuttgart State Opera, Théâtre des Champs-Élysées, Théâtre du Capitole in Toulouse, Montpellier, Teatro Sao Carlos in Lisbon, and the Opéra National du Rhin in Strasbourg. Van Rensburg’s repertoire includes the Monteverdi roles of Orfeo and Nerone in L’Incoronazione di Poppea; the Handel roles of Acis in Acis and Galatea, Bajazete in Tamerlano, Jupiter in Semele, Giuliano in Rodrigo, and Grimoaldo in Rodelinda; and Mozart’s Idomeneo, Tamino in Die Zauberflöte, and Ferrando in Così fan tutte. Other roles include Fenton in Verdi’s Falstaff, the Sailor in Wagner’s Tristan und Isolde, Chateauneuf in Lortzing’s Zar und Zimmerman, and Alfred in Johann Strauss Jr.’s Fledermaus. Recent performances include Pane in Cavalli’s Calisto in Munich and Eumete in Monteverdi’s Ritorno d’Ulisse in patria in Madrid. He makes his Seattle Opera debut as Loge in the 2009 Ring before singing Ubaldo in Rossini’s Armida at the Metropolitan Opera this fall.
