Mary Phillips sang Wellgunde and Rossweisse in Seattle Opera’s 2001 production of Wagner’s Ring des Nibelungen and returned as Wellgunde in 2005. At the Metropolitan Opera she has performed Preziosilla in Verdi’s Forza del destino, Rossweisse in Die Walküre, and Mrs. Alexander in Philip Glass’s Satyagraha. Phillips has performed with Canadian Opera Company as Fricka and Waltraute in the Ring and Eboli in Verdi’s Don Carlos, Dorabella in Mozart’s Così fan tutte and the title role in Bizet’s Carmen with Arizona Opera, Eduige in Handel’s Rodelinda and Ceres in Lee Hoiby’s Tempest at Dallas Opera, and Sister Helen Prejean in Jake Heggie’s Dead Man Walking and Azucena in Verdi’s Trovatore at Austin Lyric Opera. Her international engagements have included Erda in the Scottish Opera’s Ring, and Sesto in Handel’s Giulio Cesare and the Composer in Richard Strauss’s Ariadne auf Naxos at Barcelona’s Gran Teatre del Liceu. Phillips recently sang Miss Jessel in Britten’s Turn of the Screw in Portland and Santuzza in Mascagni’s Cavalleria rusticana in Orlando. She sings Fricka in Honolulu in February.
