Michael Chybowski has designed lighting for many New York and regional theaters. His most recent work includes lighting design for Twelfth Night at the New York Shakespeare Festival, Da at the Guthrie Theater, Copenhagen at Seattle Repertory Theatre, and Lorca in a Green Dress at the Oregon Shakespeare Festival. Chybowski has received numerous awards for his lighting designs, including an Obie Award for Sustained Excellence in Lighting Design; his work on the Pulitzer Prize-winning play Wit earned him an Obie Award, the Lucille Lortel Award, the American Theatre Wing Design Award, and a Drama Desk Award nomination. Chybowski has a close association with the Mark Morris Dance Group, for which he has created the lighting for more than thirty pieces. Opera credits for Chybowski include Monteverdi’s Orfeo at Brooklyn Academy of Music and Mozart’s Così fan tutte at Chicago Opera Theater. Chybowski made his Seattle Opera debut with Parsifal.
