Morgan Smith made his professional debut in 2001 as Donald in Britten’s Billy Budd at Seattle Opera. He returned in 2002 as Prince Yamadori in Puccini’s Madama Butterfly and has since appeared with the company as Peter Niles in Levy’s Mourning Becomes Electra, Moralès in Bizet’s Carmen, Sonora in Puccini’s Fanciulla del West, the Don in Mozart’s Don Giovanni, and, this season, Silvio in Leoncavallo’s Pagliacci. A former member of Seattle Opera’s Young Artists Program, Smith has also performed with Austin Lyric Opera, Portland Opera, Sarasota Opera, Chautauqua Opera, and Tacoma Opera, among others. Recent appearances include Prince Yamadori at San Francisco Opera, Dandini in Rossini’s Cenerentola at Portland Opera, the premiere at Benaroya Hall of Jake Heggie’s For a Look or a Touch, and Ted Steinert in the premiere of Pasatieri’s Frau Margot at Fort Worth Opera. Smith has also recorded the title role of Hans Krasa’s Brundibar and For a Look or a Touch. Future engagements include Cleveland Opera, LA Opera, Fort Worth Opera, and the premiere of Heggie’s Moby Dick at Dallas Opera and San Diego Opera.
