Nicholas Phan recently appeared as Fenton in Verdi’s Falstaff at the Glyndebourne Festival and as Malcolm in Verdi’s Macbeth at the Edinburgh International Festival. Other roles for Phan have included Lucano in Monteverdi’s Incoronazione di Poppea at Los Angeles Opera, Damon in Handel’s Acis and Galatea at New York City Opera, Fracasso in Mozart’s Finta semplice at Frankfurt Opera, Don Ramiro in Rossini’s Cenerentola and Beppe in Leoncavallo’s Pagliacci in Atlanta, and Nemorino in Donizetti’s Elisir d’amore and Count Almaviva in Rossini’s Barber of Seville at Wolf Trap Opera. He has sung Lindoro in Rossini’s Italiana in Algeri at Arizona Opera, Opera Pacific, and in Caen and Lille, France. Phan was a member of the young artist programs at Houston Grand Opera—where he sang El Chino in Daniel Catán’s Salsipuedes and Pedrillo in Mozart’s Entführung aus dem Serail, among others—and at Glimmerglass Opera, where his performances included Beppe in Leoncavallo’s Pagliacci and Licone in Haydn’s Orlando paladino. Prior to making his Seattle Opera debut in 2011 as Count Almaviva, Phan will sing Lindoro in Dusseldorf and the Count in Portland.
