In 2008, Peter Strummer will make his Seattle Opera debut as the Sacristan in Tosca, a role that he has sung for New York City Opera, Cleveland Opera, Baltimore Opera. and other companies in the U.S. and Canada. Strummer made his Metropolitan Opera debut as Beckmesser in Wagner’s Meistersinger von Nürnberg and later returned to the Met to sing Dansker in Britten’s Billy Budd. At San Francisco Opera, he has sung Antonio in Mozart’s Nozze di Figaro, Alcalde in Verdi’s Forza del Destino, Bertrand in Tchaikovsky’s Maid of Orleans, Benoit and Alcindoro in Puccini’s Bohème and Badger in Janacek’s Cunning Little Vixen. At New York City Opera, he has sung the title role of Donizetti’s Don Pasquale, Candy in Floyd’s Of Mice and Men, and Rashid in Charles Wuorinen’s new opera Haroun, among other roles. Other recent engagements include Daland in Wagner’s Flying Dutchman with Arizona Opera, the Major Domo in Richard Strauss’s Ariadne auf Naxos with Dallas Opera, and Bartolo in Rossini’s Barbiere di Siviglia with Austin Lyric Opera, Atlanta Opera, and Opera Lyra Ottawa.
