Quebec theater artist Robert Lepage has become known internationally for his multidisciplinary work. Recent opera productions include Bartok’s Bluebeard’s Castle and Schönberg’s Erwartung at Canadian Opera Company; Berlioz’s Damnation de Faust in Japan, Paris, and at the Metropolitan Opera; Stravinsky’s Rake’s Progress for Opéra de la Monnaie, San Francisco Opera, and Royal Opera Covent Garden; and Lorin Maazel’s 1984 at Covent Garden Royal Opera. In 1993, Lepage founded Ex Machina, a production company for which he serves as artistic director. His works there include The Seven Streams of the River Ota, Elsinore, Geometry of Miracles, The Far Side of the Moon, and The Dragons' Trilogy. For performer Peter Gabriel, he directed the Secret World and Growing Up tours. In 2005, Lepage created the Cirque du Soleil show KÀ for the MGM Grand Hotel, Las Vegas. Future engagements include a new Ring cycle at the Met and The Rake's Progress at La Scala.
