Robert Thomson, one of Canada’s most active lighting designers, has designed this program for numerous companies around the world. Over the past seven seasons his extensive designs for Stratford Shakespeare Festival include Romeo and Juliet, Caesar and Cleopatra , The Taming Of The Shrew, Krapp’s Last Tape & Hughie , King Lear, The Odyssey, and Into the Woods. Thomson designed for the Shaw Festival for twenty-four seasons with credits including a ten-year term as Head of Lighting Design, St. Joan, Picnic, Cavalcade, and Cyrano de Bergerac. Robert served as Resident Lighting Designer for The National Ballet of Canada for twelve seasons and designed over 25 ballets. His recent credits include Buried Child and Macbeth for Canada’s National Arts Centre, Mozart’s Idomeneo and Puccini’s Manon Lescaut for Victoria’s Pacific Opera, and King Lear on Broadway. His awards include a Sterling Award for Bluebeard’s Castle and Erwartung plus four of Canada’s coveted Dora Mavor Moore Awards.
