As a member of the Canadian Opera Company’s Ensemble Studio program, Roger Honeywell sang the title role in Sartorio’s Giulio Cesare in Egitto and made his mainstage debut in the 2000/01 season singing Roderigo in Verdi’s Otello. Other roles with the Canadian Opera Company included High Priest in Mozart’s Idomeneo, Zefirino in Rossini’s Viaggio a Reims, Joe in Puccini’s Fanciulla del West, Narraboth in Richard Strauss Salome, and Maintop in Britten’s Billy Budd. As a member of the Chicago Lyric Young Artists program, Honeywell sang Frederic in Sullivan’s Pirates of Penzance. Since then, Honeywell has made his debut with the Vancouver Opera as Alfredo in Verdi’s Traviata and his debut at Glimmerglass Opera as Dick Johnson in La fancuilla del West. In the 2004/05 season, Honeywell makes his debut at the New York City Opera as Leukippos in Richard Strauss’s Daphne, and will sing in the premiere of a new work by Richard Danielpour, Margaret Garner, to be performed at Michigan Opera Theatre, Cincinnati Opera, and Philadelphia Opera. Also with Cincinnati Opera, he sings Steva in Janacek’s Jenufa this season. Prior to his career in opera, Honeywell spent five seasons as an actor in the Stratford Festival of Canada and Shaw Festival in Niagara on the Lake. Honeywell makes his Seattle Opera debut as Gabriel von Eisenstein in Die Fledermaus.
