The 2004/05 season marks American baritone Stephen Kechulius’s tenth production singing the title role in Verdi’s Rigoletto, which he performs for his Seattle Opera debut in October. Recently, Kechulius made his London debut as Baron Scarpia in English National Opera’s production of Verdi’s Tosca and his German debut in the title role of Verdi’s Falstaff for Frankfurt Oper. This season, he also returns to New York City Opera as Jack Rance in Puccini’s Fanciulla del West. Kechulius’ other recent appearances include the title role in Verdi’s Nabucco for Pacific Opera Victoria; Iago in Verdi’s Otello, Michele in Puccini’s Tabarro, and the title role in Puccini’s Gianni Schicchi with Vlaamse Opera in Antwerp and Ghent; Rigoletto with Fort Worth Opera; and Miller in Verdi’s Luisa Miller with Palm Beach Opera. In 2002, Kechulius made his New York City Opera debut singing Baron Scarpia, a role that he has also performed with Arizona Opera, Utah Opera, and Nashville Opera. Other roles to his credit include Enrico in Donizetti’s Lucia di Lammermoor and Germont in Verdi’s Traviata.
