Danish bass Stephen Milling has sung frequently at Royal Danish Opera, where his performances have included the Wagner roles of Landgraf Hermann in Tannhäuser, King Marke in Tristan und Isolde, Daland in Der Fliegende Holländer, Fafner in Siegfried, and Filippo II in Verdi’s Don Carlos, among many others. Other international credits include Rocco in Fidelio at Barcelona’s Gran Teatre del Liceu, Gurnemanz in Wagner’s Parsifal in Vienna, Sarastro in Mozart’s Magic Flute at Royal Opera Covent Garden, Brander in Berlioz’s Damnation de Faust at the Barbican, and Narbal in Berlioz’s Troyens in Valencia. He made his U.S. debut at Seattle Opera as Fasolt and Hunding in Wagner’s Ring, and was named Artist of the Year for his Gurnemanz in 2003. His performances in the U.S. have included Sarastro, Hunding, and Sparafucile in Verdi’s Rigoletto at the Metropolitan Opera, Filippo II at San Francisco Opera, and King Marke at Lyric Opera of Chicago. Milling has also been seen in Baden-Baden, Florence, Naples, Salzburg, Berlin, and Rome. Upcoming performances include Gurnemanz in Stuttgart, Sarastro in Copenhagen, and King Marke in Seattle.
