Stuart Skelton makes his Seattle Opera debut as Siegmund in Wagner’s Ring des Nibelungen, a role he previously sang in Adelaide, Zurich, and Hamburg. His live recording of Siegmund on Melba Records was honored with the inaugural Prix Lauritz Melchior award for Best Heldentenor on Disc by the Academie du Disc Lyrique in Paris. His other Wagner roles include Parsifal, Lohengrin, Rienzi, and Erik in Die fliegende Höllander. Other performances include the Kaiser in Richard Strauss’s Frau ohne Schatten, Bacchus in Richard Strauss’s Ariadne auf Naxos, Florestan in Beethoven’s Fidelio, Laca in Janácek’s Jenufa, and Saint-Saëns’ Samson. Skelton has been seen in Berlin, Hamburg, London, Los Angeles, Madrid, Munich, New York, Paris, San Francisco, Vienna, and his native Sydney. Recordings include Mahler’s Lied von der Erde with San Francisco Symphony, King Arthur on the DVD of the world premiere of Isaac Albéniz’ Merlin, and the world premiere of John Foulds’ World Requiem. Future plans include Parsifal in Zurich and London, and the Tambour Major in Berg’s Wozzeck in New York and Santa Fe.
