A Young Artists Program Production
Italian slapstick and Greek mythology collide in this unique backstage comedy from Richard Strauss. High art and lowbrow antics combine with delightful results when a rich patron, eager to see fireworks, decrees that a capering troupe of comedians must integrate their performance into an opera company’s rhapsodic story of love lost and love found. Ariadne auf Naxos features whimsical ensembles, some of Strauss’s most soaring music, and one of the most spectacular coloratura arias in all of opera. Director Peter Kazaras brings his innovative, theatrical flair to this one-of-a-kind examination of the many elements that come together to make entertainment. Maestro Brian Garman will conduct the performances, which will feature the Auburn Symphony Orchestra.
