Youth Opera Chorus

Seattle Opera’s Youth Opera Chorus provides a fun, engaging, and robust experience learning the art of collaborative singing. Weekly sessions offer each chorister the opportunity work with accomplished professionals in the field, singing in a variety of languages while developing stage, acting, and movement skills. In addition to performance opportunities, choristers will have access to behind-the-scenes tours, meeting artists, workshops, and open rehearsals. No experience required!

Abra-cadabra: Scenes of Magic, Spells and Potions

April 6-10, 2015 or April 13-17, 2015; 9:30am-3:30pm

In this spring break camp, boys and girls in grades 2 - 6 will spend their days off in this fantastically fun camp learning songs and scenes from different operas and musicals. We’ll stage the scenes with choreography and present them in a performance at the end of the week. There are 2 weeks to choose from! April 6-10, 2015 and April 13-17, 2014 9:30am – 3:30pm each weekday. Cost is $325 for the week. Financial assistance available.

Magic Flute: Opera Camp for grades 3 – 6

July 6 - 17, 2015; 9:30am - 3:30pm

This 2-week camp will explore the fanciful story of Mozart’s Magic Flute. We will stage scenes and sing excerpts from this timeless story in age-appropriate keys. Teaching artists will guide students as they explore basic acting techniques and healthy singing in an inviting and nurturing environment, spending time under the sun as well as in the theater. July 6 – 17 (M-F) from 9:30am – 3:30pm, with a performance on the last day of the camp for friends and family. $650. Financial assistance available.

Scenes and Songs: Opera Camp for grades K - 2

July 13-17, 2015, 9:00am-12:00pm

This 1-week camp will be chock full of fun, singing, and moving. With a focus on healthy singing and character exploration, these students will stage and sing musical theater scenes along with other age-appropriate repertoire. We will spend time outside under the sun, as well as instructional time in the theater. The camp will culminate with a performance for friends and family. Half-days July 13 – 17 from 9:00am – 12noon, with after-care available until 3:30pm for an additional charge. $150. Financial assistance available.


Teen Opera Players

Teen Opera Players offers teens who are interested in vocal performance a variety of experiences with vocal coaching, stage movement, dance, and diction for singers. There are opportunities for solos, duets, and quartets to help build independent singing skills, and for those who prefer ensemble singing, there are many opportunities too! These workshops are for teens who want to expand their musical theater and operatic repertoire while sharpening their stage skills. No prior experience necessary to join in the fun!

Fights and Furies

February 14 – 17, 2015; 10:00 AM – 4:00 PM

As storytellers, we often need to fight and die on the stage. Join us for a short 4-day workshop focusing on the precision of stage combat and the art of dying convincingly. Grades 7 - 12. Cost $225. Financial assistance available.

Teen Scenes Workshop: Follies of Love and War

April 6 – 10, 2015 or April 13 – 17, 2015; 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM

With two different weeks to choose from, we hope one of these will coincide with your Spring Break! In this workshop, we will explore scenes from musical theater and opera, building our performance skills through diction, acting, and choreography. Grades 7 - 12. Cost $325. Financial assistance available.

Midsummer Night’s Dream: Teen Workshop

July 6 - 17, 2015; 10:00am - 4:00pm

Join us as we explore hill, dale, and wander through the magical world of Britten’s setting of Midsummer Night’s Dream and other settings of Shakespeare’s poetry. We’ll spend 2 weeks acting, dancing, singing, and enjoying a great deal of merriment. July 6 – 17 (M-F) from 10am – 4pm, with a performance on the last day of the workshop for friends and family. $650. Financial assistance available.

Teen Opera Players Studio

Teen Opera Players Studio offers a deeper performance education, at a pre-conservatory level, for the serious performer. TOP Studio includes:

  • opportunities to perform monthly
  • performance classes
  • masterclasses
  • backstage experiences
  • acting lessons
  • vocal coaching
  • diction for singers
