Opera Time, an In-service Day Camp (CANCELED)

9:30am - 3:30pm
Cost: $40; After-care $20
Boys and girls in grades 1 - 3 get to spend this day off school (professional development/in-service day) creating their own mini-musical based on a storybook, singing songs, learning about character development, and making arts and crafts. At the end of the day, we present our original creation for friends and family. After-care available until 5pm.
Ahoy, Pirates! Camp at Spring Break
April 7 - 11 and April 14 - 18, 2014
9:30am - 3:30pm
Boys and girls in grades 2 - 5, choose the Spring Break camp that fits with your school’s schedule. This week is jam-packed full of frolicking fun with Gilbert and Sullivan’s Pirates of Penzance. A ton of tongue-twisting tomfoolery abounds! Sing and act your way to discovering your inner pirate. We’ll perform for friends & family on Friday.
Figaro! for Teen Opera Players
April 14 - 18, 2014
9:30am - 4:00pm
In this workshop intensive for teens, we will learn and stage scenes from Mozart’s Le nozze di Figaro. Through this brilliant comedy, we will incorporate Italian diction, classical dance forms, character development, and comedic timing. We will stage our scenes and arias for a Friday performance for friends and family.
Audition Workshop for Teen Opera Players
April 26 & May 3, 2014

Have you ever wanted to do that audition again? In this 2-Saturday workshop, you’ll have the chance to do just that! Each participant will perform an audition for a panel of music & theater professionals in a supportive environment, receive encouraging written feedback, learn a few tricks and tips — and get to do it again, incorporating what you learned the week before. All this plus a panel discussion with Q&A.

The Mikado Summer Camp

Boys and girls in grades 4 - 8: Our popular collaboration with Seattle Public Theater continues with this Manga-style production of Gilbert and Sullivan’s Mikado. Enjoy four weeks of music-making and theatrical fun this summer along Green Lake with two performances at the end of the camp.

Dido and Aeneas | Teen Opera Players
July 28 - August 29, 2014
9:30am - 4pm
Teens will delve into this English Baroque opera based on Virgil’s Aeneid. Our highly skilled faculty will guide teens in character development, healthy singing, 18th Century choreography and Baroque performance practice. Rehearsals at McCaw Hall in Seattle Center with two performances at the end of this opera workshop intensive.
Youth Opera Chorus Camp
August 18 - 29, 2014
9:30am - 4pm
Boys and girls entering grades 3 - 6: Our YOCC camp returns! Boys and girls will spend their summer in this fantastically fun camp learning songs and scenes from many different operas in many languages. We’ll stage the scenes with choreography and present them in two performances at the end of camp.
We are committed to providing opportunities for any interested children and young adults to enjoy Seattle Opera’s opera camp program, regardless of ability to pay.
