At Benaroya Hall
Based on Goethe’s iconic novel “The Sorrows of Young Werther,” the beautifully affecting score tells the story of Werther, a sensitive young artist in love Charlotte. Charlotte, however, is duty-bound to fulfill her dying mother’s wish that she marry Albert. In growing desperation, Werther chooses to end this impossible love with his death.
A chamber version, with piano, this production will be overseen by Music Director Brian Garman and Directed by Artistic Director Peter Kazaras with Design Coordination by Victor Steeb.
In French with English subtitles
Approximate Running Time: 2 hours including intermission.
Meet the Young Artists singing the lead roles, and hear why the program is performing this “specialty” (according to Stage director Peter Kazaras) opera. Find out which role Kazaras calls “a killer” because of its difficulty, and see it all coming together in rehearsal.
