The Gathering Note

A Magical Midsummer Night’s Dream
“This production is enchanting, enthralling, and very funny. … [it’s] impact is more immediate thanks to the intimate space of the Theatre at Meydenbauer Center. … Both Counter-tenor Anthony Roth Costanzo, a superb Oberon, and baritone Jeffrey Madison, an irrespressible Bottom, shone in the rewarding roles Britten and Shakespeare wrote for them. Soprano Megan Hart made a convincing Tytania. … Peter Kazaras’ inspired stage direction and Connie Yun’s lighting made this production magical. … Mention, too, should be made of the children’s chorus, who acted and sang their roles like veterans. … Brian Garman gave an unerring pace to the opera with an orchestra many of whose players came from the capable Auburn Symphony. … In short, this is a show not to be missed. Worth every penny!”

A Very Enjoyable Evening
“The singing was nuanced and thoughtfully delivered from the start. … Brian Garman’s orchestra played well: always together and very balanced both with each other and with the singers. … Soprano Emily Hindrich’s Tytania was languorous, sensual and a bit mysterious: very befitting a fairy queen. Michelle Trovato’s Helena was spot-on and engaging from the start. … The group of working men putting on a play about Pyramus and Thisby deserves special mention. … Jeffrey Madison, as Bottom, really stole the show, not only with his beautiful, redolent baritone, but also with his fearless bombast and excellent comedic timing. … This was a very enjoyable evening, and those who love Shakespeare, Britten, or comic opera should find it well worth the time. …”
