Presented by Seattle Opera in Partnership with Seattle Public Theater
New for the 2017/18 season, the Youth Opera Project is a comprehensive opera training program designed to guide youth through the steps of producing an opera. Participants work with a professional stage director and teaching artists in a fun, supportive, and safe environment, exploring singing, stagecraft, acting, and dance. Rehearsals take place on evenings and weekends from September to January, and the experience culminates with multiple performances of a fully-staged opera at Cornish Playhouse in February.
The Youth Opera Project accepts everyone ages 7-18, regardless of skill level or ability to pay, and no prior experience is necessary. Participants are organized into groups based on age and skill level, with additional consideration based on a placement audition. The four age groups are:
- Overture (preparatory chorus)
- Crescendo (intermediate chorus)
- Advanced Ensemble (teens)
- Teen Vocal Studio (a select roster of serious singers, selected by audition)
Auditions for the 2017/18 Youth opera Project have closed. Audition information for the next Youth Opera Project will be available soon. If you are interested in being notified of future audition opportunities for youth at Seattle Opera, please email firstname.lastname@example.org.
