Zandra Rhodes made her name in the fashion industry prior to delving into costume design for opera. In 1977 she pioneered the pink and black jersey collection with holes and safety pins that earned her the name of “Princess of Punk,” and in 1997 she was made a Commander of the British Empire in recognition of her contribution to fashion and textiles. Her designs for The Magic Flute, The Pearl Fishers, and Aida have been produced around the world.
